Recognising the very best of sustainability in the heating and plumbing industry

A couple of years ago, we added a new category to the Heating Installer Awards, which looks to recognise the Most Sustainable Installers in our industry. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in all of our lives, and not least for those working in the heating and plumbing sector. And, with big targets for Net Zero set by the Government, plus a ban on all gas boilers in new builds by 2023, it’s only going to become more prominent.

So, we’re going to work hard here at the awards to share stories and recognise the work coming from the very best sustainable heating installers in the business. If you reckon you’re one of them, enter our Most Sustainable Installer category for free now!

Of course, we know it’s not all up to the installers; companies that work with them have a big part to play too. We’ve got some brilliant sponsors for the awards this year, all who are playing their part in creating a more sustainable industry. So, we wanted to share some of the best current sustainability initiatives from them below.

Danfoss

Check out Danfoss’ Green Restart series initiative, which aims to showcase how we can restart the economy following the pandemic in a green way. We love this video which shares more about what the business is trying to achieve through the initiative. Emissions are massively down due to the pandemic, and Danfoss believes now’s the time to build on this make a green change – and we couldn’t agree more!

In the same vein, this page has lots of great information and practical advice on solutions for green renovations and increasing energy efficiency. With 40% of the world’s energy consumption used in buildings, it’s important stuff, so do check it out.

Danfoss has also looked at the challenges of achieving Net Zero in the heating industry. The report analyses the challenge of decarbonising heat and explores solutions in the journey to Net Zero by 2050. With around 90% of the energy for this sector currently coming from fossil fuels, this is a really important piece of research. You can read more here.

And last but not least, Danfoss has some great sustainability-focused webinars coming up:

  • 3/12/20 @1pm – Improving the efficiency of domestic heating systems
  • 15/12/20 @1pm – The challenge of Net Zero

You can sign up for these for free under the events section of its installer hub here.

LG

If you thought LG simply did TVs and washing machines then think again! LG’s award winning Therma V Air to Water Heat Pump range uses renewable technologies and natural energy from the air to provide green heating and hot water for your home – so it really is a must have for engineers looking to add heat pumps to their product offering . LG is currently on a mission to support the Government’s target of installing 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028!

If you’re unsure about heat pumps, but know they’re something you should be investing in, LG offers free advice in how to get started with training courses and lots of educational content around how they work. The business has already stepped up its efforts to get more and more installers trained and ready to begin the heat pump revolution. Training takes place at its two training centres – at its head office in Weybridge and at GREenergy training centre in Chesterfield, close to the M1.

For more information on the LG Therma V range and the training available contact LG by emailing HVAC.Marketing@lge.com, or you can head to www.lg.com/uk/monobloc

Polypipe

And last but not least, Polypipe is on a mission to make its energy journey greener. Last month it announced details of its journey towards the Energy standard ISO 50001, which will help reduce its carbon footprint and develop a more effective use of energy through reducing energy waste and improving current processes. Part of this journey has been taken by Polypipe switching to green energy such as sunlight, wind and tides. That’s no small feat for a business that uses enough energy to run 6,800 homes per year! You can read more about it in in this blog, or in this video directly from its managing director.

Here at the Heating Installer Awards, we stand proud with all businesses and individuals that are doing their part to help our world become greener. Kudos to our sponsors, and anyone else that’s playing their part.
