It was third time lucky for Leeds-based Grant Gundelfinger, who scooped the national title at this year’s Heating Installer Awards 2021.
Grant, who is a director of Mayfly Group Ltd, scooped the Heating Installer Awards’ Yorkshire regional title back in May after our judging panel of leading industry experts whittled down hundreds of outstanding entries to just nine UK-wide regional winners. Grant impressed the judges and the public with his technical expertise, outstanding professionalism and commitment to the industry and his customers. He was crowned the National Heating Installer Awards winner at this year’s InstallerSHOW at the Coventry Building Society Arena following a technical challenge and a public online vote.
Grant is no stranger to the awards. He has claimed the Yorkshire regional title three years in a row now and was pipped at the post to the top national award in 2019 when he was named as national runner up. It’s clear that he takes great pride in his work, something which is recognised by his company and its many customers.
We sat down with Grant to talk all about his win, what he has been up to since the show and advice he has for those hoping to be crowned National Heating Installer Winner 2022!
- Tell me about what you’re up to at the moment
We are back to work and busy as ever! The Heating Installer Awards feels like a dream now, but we have some really exciting projects coming up which are keeping us busy.
We are also recruiting! Looking for a high-quality heating installer takes time, but I am looking forward to welcoming a new member of the team before the year is out.
I also just did my interview with FIX radio all about the awards which was really great and I loved discussing my big win, the work I have been doing, and the future of the industry.
- What benefits have you seen since winning the Heating Installer Awards 2021?
Winning the Heating Installer Awards has been an absolute dream come true for me, as everyone knows! Since I have won, I have been approached by a variety of brands, however, I won’t endorse products my team and I would not work with on a job. I want people who follow me on social media to know that anything I promote I am genuinely passionate about and feel will greatly benefit another installer’s experience when using.
Winning the award has helped us to gain recognition both locally and in the wider area. If a homeowner is looking for an installer of the highest standard, we are able to show that we have won the pinnacle of accolades within the sector, which is a huge plus.
Apart from that is has just been lovely to receive such positive comments of congratulations from my colleagues, peers and customers. The support I received was overwhelming and I am still on such a high!
- What are your plans for the future?
I am really passionate about improving the industry, and to do that we must all share our knowledge and expertise and support one another in order to become to best we can be.
- What products could you not live without on a job and why?
Two products I absolutely cannot live without are my Bahco wide jaw spanners and my Pica pencil. Both are so reliable; no other brands make products like these and I can recommend them without a doubt.
- What advice do you have for anyone entering next year’s Heating Installer Awards 2022?
Do your very best. The winner of the Heating Installer Awards has to be someone who is consistently producing high quality work: think about a project you put your heart and soul into and really sets you apart from the rest and then take your time when writing your entry – and don’t leave any detail out no matter how small. The judges are looking for someone who really knows their stuff! Give it your all, you won’t regret it. I’ve had an absolute ball this year.
