The first Stelrad 'green radiator' being loaded on the delivery van

Leading radiator manufacturer Stelrad Radiators has announced its first sale of the brand-new Stelrad Series range. Purchased online, the radiator – the first of many – was picked at the National Distribution Centre and dispatched just days after new Stelrad Green Compact went on sale on 1st April. The purchaser has reported that the selection was driven by a desire to be more eco-friendly and that he was happy to pay a little bit more for a product that will contribute towards lower CO₂ in the atmosphere.

Tata Steel is supplying UK made 90% Carbon Lite steel to Stelrad within the radiator market, so that Stelrad customers can choose a Stelrad Green Compact radiator range that contributes directly to a reduction in atmospheric CO₂ today and accelerates decarbonisation in the future.

Tata Steel is a UK leading strip steel manufacturer with steelmaking facilities in Port Talbot in South Wales. The steel comes with a certificate from DNV – Det Norske Veritas to prove the steel has 90% lower embodied CO₂ emissions. The process for producing the steel is called Optemis® Carbon Lite.

All revenues generated by the process are reinvested to fund additional projects, thereby generating further CO₂ savings to be verified by DNV and speeding up decarbonisation efforts within the UK.

Stelrad’s head of marketing is Chris Harvey: “Whilst largely symbolic, the first sale of any new product is encouraging, and we hope signals the start of an exciting new programme of sales as more and more people wake up to the opportunity to enjoy green steel radiators in their developments and buildings up and down the UK.

“This is an exciting step for us to take towards greener manufacturing and fits in perfectly with our Group’s sustainability policy. The new Stelrad Green Series comprises of 60 horizontal models from our Stelrad Green Compact range. The concept is already being well received by many of our customers who are keen to see more sustainable products being utilised in their homes and buildings. As well as the reduction in carbon emissions, no plastic is being used for the outer packaging either further increasing the sustainability claims of the product range – and of course, a radiator is 100% recyclable.”

STELRAD ADDS COMPACT 900mm HIGH RADIATORS TO OTHER SERIES

Posted on:

As part of its programme of providing radiators to operate well with renewable heating systems – powered by air source and ground source heat pumps – Stelrad launched a range of 900mm high radiators in a variety of widths in quarter 2 2023.

As a result of the popularity of these new 900mm high radiators Stelrad has announced that it has added the models to the Vita, Softline and Henrad ranges in the Stelrad Group portfolio as well from Q1 2024.

Head of Marketing Chris Harvey said: “There is a clear need for larger size radiators to cope with the lower circulating system temperatures generated by renewable heating systems and we are making sure our installer and specifier customers have access to the full range of options they will need in the months ahead. Having launched the 900mm high Compact models earlier in the year the popularity of them has been such that it made clear sense to add them to the ranges that are stocked by a wider range of merchants in particular.”

“The arrival of the new upgrade to Building Regulations back on 15th June in England and from November this year in Wales brings with it a realisation that the key figure to bear in mind is 55°C – the maximum flow temperature for all new wet heating systems from this date. The regulations also say that heating appliances and radiators should not be oversized. TRVs need to be fitted to every radiator except where there is a room thermostat fitted. The differential between the flow and return should be 10°C – giving a 45°C return, and a mean water temperature of 50°C. This will have an impact on radiators but simply means that sizing of radiators is more important than ever and the 900mm high range offer a useful alternative size radiator for installers looking to meet the new requirements. All the advice you could need is available through relevant websites to point installers and specifiers in the right direction with regard to using the right radiators in the right applications.

“The transition from fossil fuelled, boiler driven systems to heat pump driven renewable systems is well underway and we’re making sure that installers and specifiers realise fully that radiators are ‘fit for the future’ and more than capable of providing the necessary heat around the home – radiators need to be sized properly as always to provide sufficient heating capacity and insulation needs to be evaluated to ensure its adequate to ensure the heat in the home does not escape to atmosphere.”

Head for www.stelrad.com for all the advice you need to decide on the right radiators for your installations and heating system designs.

THE HEATING INSTALLER AWARDS WELCOMES TWO NEW SPONSORS

Posted on:

The IPG and Samsung Climate Solutions have been confirmed as official sponsors of the awards for 2024 as we return for the ninth year to once again search for the best installers in the UK.

The IPG is a membership group for independent plumbing and heating stores and bathroom showrooms and works alongside many industry-leading manufacturers and suppliers. It was founded in 2013 with a simple mission – to champion independents in this sector and give them the support they need to thrive. With a network of well over 200 independent stores nationwide, The IPG members can offer you the best brands at great prices. To find out more visit The IPGs website here.

Samsung Electronics has been redefining indoor climate comfort for tomorrow’s society since introducing its first air conditioner in 1974, aiming to help people find their flow, so they may feel and live their best – be it at work, play or rest. They are committed to offering more energy-efficient solutions with innovative cooling, heating, domestic hot water, refrigeration and smart building solutions. For their industry partners, they offer ongoing technical training in climate and smart building solutions, and after-sales and technical support. Backed by Samsung’s quality reputation and leading-edge innovation, including digital connectivity solutions. To find out more, visit Samsung Climate Solutions website here.

Entries are now open and as always the awards are completely free to enter. We encourage installers from around the UK to submit a case study of a project that demonstrates not only fantastic results, but clever product selection, great customer service, and technical expertise. There is a prize bundle worth over £10,000 on offer for the finalists, including money-can’t-buy prizes from our sponsors.

After entries close in February 2024 we’ll pull together an expert judging panel to mark the best entries from each region and specialist categories. The panel will include technical specialists from each sponsor as well as representatives from the independent professional body, CIPHE.

The overall winners will then be decided by a combination of judges’ scores, independently reviewed technical challenges and a public vote.

Each of the regional winners will then have the chance to go on to be crowned the national winner 2024, as well as special category winners:

  • Rising Star – recognising the industry’s budding apprentices;
  • Sustainable Installer (North, South & Midlands) – recognising those who are doing everything they can to minimise the impact of their work on the environment and;
  • HVAC Installer – recognising those who are installing full home comfort systems that heat and cool their customer’s homes, as well as improve ventilation and air quality.

Each year, sponsors, winners and shortlisted installers are also invited to a number of in-person events including a kick-off event and a regional winner’s event to celebrate the top talent from each region of the UK.

We spoke to Nike Lovell, Marketing Director at The IPG, who said: “The IPG is delighted to sponsor the Heating Installer Awards for the first time this year. So much about the awards aligns with our values – in fact, our ethos centres upon supporting independent businesses in the plumbing, heating and bathroom sectors and providing a personal touch, so we can’t wait to build closer relationships with the installer community.

In previous years, we have seen the impact that the awards has on all involved and how it spotlights those who do brilliant work, provide excellent customer service and offer unmatched technical expertise – giving them the recognition that they so truly deserve. We know that talent can often go unrecognised in this industry and to be able to support a scheme that gives so much back to the community is an honour and we look forward to working with the team on an excellent campaign this year.”

We also spoke to Sim Gill, Digital Marketing Manager at Samsung Climate Solutions who commented: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Heating Installer Awards for the first time this year. With the scheme now in its ninth year, we know the awards are already well-renowned and highly respected across the industry so it’s fantastic to know that we’re going to be a part of the journey throughout 2023/24.

Supporting the awards will provide us with a unique opportunity to connect with incredible installers from around the country on a personal level, and recognise the hard work that goes into heating and cooling our homes. We know that the talent, skill and dedication of these installers can often go unnoticed, so it’s a pleasure to be apart of a scheme that really shines a light
on and celebrates this work.’’

The overall winner will be announced at InstallerSHOW 2024, held in the Birmingham NEC, where our 2023 champion James Bowen will crown the next national winner.

To enter, plumbers and heating installers can visit the enter page on our website and fill in the short form detailing a project you’re particularly proud of. Or if preferred, call us directly on 0161 871 1188 and we’d be happy to take your entry over the phone.

How energy-efficient radiators can save you money on your gas bill

Posted on:

Keeping our homes warm and comfortable becomes a top priority during the colder months. Radiators are an essential part of the heating system and are responsible for keeping our homes warm during the colder months. However, traditional radiators are not always the most energy-efficient, and they can account for a significant amount of energy usage, which can result in high energy bills.

Fortunately, there are now energy-saving radiators available that can help you reduce your energy consumption and save money on your energy bills. Radiators such as the Classic Compact K3 have a greater surface area to give off heat, therefore can heat rooms up quicker, or can work more effectively at lower temperatures. An energy-efficient heater is designed with advanced features that allow you to regulate the temperature in each room, providing better control over the heating of your home.

Stelrad have their own range of these eco-friendly radiators, however, it’s important to understand why a radiator like this could benefit you.

What Are Energy-Efficient Radiators?

Energy-efficient radiators are a type of radiator that is designed to use less energy while still providing the same level of warmth and comfort as traditional radiators. These radiators are designed with advanced features that help you regulate the temperature in each room, allowing you to have better control over the heating of your home.

One of the key features of energy-efficient radiators is digital thermostats, which provide more accurate temperature control than traditional thermostats. Digital thermostats allow you to set the temperature for each room individually, which can help you save money on your energy bills by only heating the rooms that you need.

With the programmable timers and smart controls of energy-efficient radiators, you can change the settings until they fit your needs.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENERGY-EFFICIENT RADIATORS?

Lower Energy Bills

By using less energy, energy-efficient or eco-friendly radiators can help you save money on your energy bills. These radiators are designed to be more efficient, meaning they use less energy to produce the same amount of heat as traditional radiators. This can result in significant savings over time.

Better Control

Eco-friendly radiators come with advanced features such as digital thermostats, programmable timers, and smart controls that allow you to regulate the temperature in each room. This means that you can heat specific rooms or areas of your home, providing better control over the heating of your home.

Eco-friendly

Energy-efficient radiators are eco-friendly as they use less energy to produce the same level of warmth and comfort. This means that you are reducing your carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Aesthetics

Replacing older radiators that are less efficient can not only increase the output but also add an aesthetic appeal to your home. There are a variety of designs available, from modern to traditional, so you can choose a radiator that fits your style and complements your decor.

HOW TO CHOOSE AN ENERGY-EFFICIENT RADIATOR

Size

The size of your radiator should be based on the size of your room. A radiator that is too small for a room will not provide enough heat, while a radiator that is too big will waste energy and money. Stelrad have a handy guide online to help you find the right size radiator for your room, which can be found here.

Heat Output

The heat output of a radiator is measured in watts or BTUs (British Thermal Units). You should choose a radiator with the correct heat output for the size of your room to ensure that it is both efficient and effective.

Other Features

Consider the features of the radiator, such as digital thermostats, programmable timers, and smart controls. These features can help you regulate the temperature in each room, providing better control over the heating of your home.

ECO-FRIENDLY RADIATORS FOR YOUR HOME

Energy-efficient radiators are an excellent investment for anyone looking to reduce their energy bills and improve the efficiency of their heating system. They are eco-friendly, offer better control over your heating, and are aesthetically pleasing.

When choosing an energy-efficient radiator, consider factors such as size, heat output, energy rating, and features to ensure that you choose the right radiator for your home. Remember, a radiator is only as efficient as the system it is installed on, so make sure your heating system is well maintained to achieve the best results from your energy-efficient radiator.

If you’re looking to reduce your energy consumption and save money on your energy bill while keeping your home warm and comfortable, then it’s time to consider upgrading to an energy-efficient heater.

Stelrad offers a wide range of energy-saving radiators that are eco-friendly and designed to help you achieve optimal energy efficiency in your home. Browse their website today to learn more about their energy-efficient radiators and find the perfect one for your home.

The energy efficiency of vertical radiators: a comprehensive guide

Posted on:

Vertical radiators are becoming increasingly popular in modern homes, thanks to their sleek design and space-saving features. However, even as these tall radiators become more common, many people are still unsure about the energy efficiency they provide. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the energy efficiency of vertical radiators, their benefits, and how to choose the best one for your home, so you can benefit from the most modern designs without having to compromise on heat output and energy efficiency.

WHAT ARE VERTICAL RADIATORS?

Vertical radiators are designed to fit into narrow and tall spaces. They can be installed on walls or in corners, making them a popular choice for small rooms or apartments. Vertical radiators work in the same way as traditional radiators, by heating water that is then circulated around the radiator to emit heat. There are various different styles of vertical radiators that you can choose whether you prefer a column vertical radiator, a flat vertical radiator or a stylish towel rail to enhance your space. And they’re far from boring – vertical, tall radiators come in a range of finishes, whether you prefer shiny chrome, a matt finish, or a bold, bright colour to bring your interior to life.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF VERTICAL RADIATORS

Energy efficient radiators are measured by their ability to heat a room using the least amount of energy possible. Vertical radiators are generally more efficient than traditional radiators because they have a larger surface area, which means they can emit more heat into the room. Additionally, because vertical radiators are often installed in narrow spaces, they are better at heating specific areas rather than the entire room, which can help to reduce energy consumption.

One of the key benefits of vertical radiators is that they often have a higher heat output than traditional radiators. This means that they can heat a room more quickly and efficiently. In addition, vertical radiators can often be installed with thermostatic controls, which allow you to adjust the temperature in each room of your home. This can help to further reduce energy consumption and save you money on your energy bills. You may also notice that your tall radiator has a higher heat output above the radiator – this is normal and is simply due to the fact heat is concentrated at a higher level. It’s important to calculate the heat loss in each room before choosing your radiators, so you know the required heat output. Stelrad’s heat loss calculator makes this task easy and quick, so you can get to choosing your perfect radiator sooner! To access the heat loss calculator visit their website here.

BENEFITS OF VERTICAL RADIATORS

In addition to their energy efficiency, vertical radiators in the UK offer a range of other benefits. One of the most notable is their space-saving design as they can be installed on walls or in corners that would otherwise be too small for a horizontal design. This makes them ideal for compact rooms or apartments where space is limited. A vertical, tall radiator can often be installed higher than traditional radiators, which can help to free up floor space and make a room feel more spacious.

Another benefit of vertical radiators is their design. Because they are tall and narrow, they can be a great way to add a stylish touch to your home. They are available in a range of styles and finishes, including traditional and contemporary designs, so you can find one that suits your home décor.

CHOOSING THE BEST VERTICAL RADIATOR FOR YOUR HOME

When choosing a vertical radiator for your home, there are several factors to consider. The first factor you should consider is the energy efficiency of the radiator. Look for a radiator that has a high heat output and is energy-efficient. You may also want to consider a radiator that can be controlled using thermostatic controls, which can help to reduce energy consumption.

Another factor to consider is the size of the radiator. This will depend on the size of the room you want to heat. Generally, a larger radiator will have a higher heat output and be more efficient, but it may not be suitable for smaller rooms. Stelrad have a handy online tool that helps calculate the perfect sized radiator for your room, which you can view here.

Finally, think about the style of the radiator. Vertical radiators are available in a range of styles and finishes, so you can choose one that suits your home décor. You may want to choose a radiator that matches your existing décor or one that makes a statement in your room.

Stelrad can offer support in finding energy efficient radiators that are stylish and effective with their vast selection. Stelrad’s vertical radiators also offer a higher heat output and the ability to heat specific areas of a room. Take a look at Stelrad’s selection on their website today!
