Please tell us about a project you are particularly proud of – what was the problem and how did you solve it for the customer?

A project I’m proud of is a large early 1900’s property with 3 bathrooms and downstairs w.c. that is currently being renovated. During the project, I installed a total of 15 handmade cast iron radiators, 6 towel radiators, approximately 120sqm of underfloor heating and a hot water return throughout the house. The customer wanted independent control over the ground floor, 1st floor and towel radiator circuits as well as multi-zone underfloor heating all controlled through Heatmiser thermostats throughout the property. This was a huge project and had a lot of different elements to consider. I think the main challenge I came across was fitting some of the large cast iron radiators on the engineered hard oak floors as it was difficult to install radiators without damaging anything, however, with time and precision I successfully installed the radiators and they work perfectly with the oak floors.

Which products did you select for the job and why?

For this project I used a Vaillant system boiler, Fastwarm underfloor heating with Heatmiser controls, Grundfos Pumps, Honeywell Zone Valves and Heatmiser controls. I decided to use these products as I use them fairly regularly and know they’re trustworthy and reliable. I wanted to make sure the customer wasn’t going to have any problems in the future and I know these products are high quality. They’re also completely hassle free which was ideal for this project as I had to install two types of underfloor heating!

Tell us what was different or unique about this job? Why does it stand out?

I think this project was unique because the property had a lot of character and the customer was more interested in the job being right rather than cutting costs. The entire house was incredibly impressive and it isn’t every day you get to work with such big properties with extensive needs, which makes it stand out compared to the other jobs I’ve worked on this year. The house was also made up with really nice products and vintage looking features like the cast iron radiators.

And finally, tell us what the end result was for your customer?

I really wanted to futureproof this job and make sure the customer was well covered if anything needed replacing in the future. So, there’s a seven-year guarantee on the boiler, and pumps and zone valves have all been made easily accessible with lever valves and drain off valves for each zone to make replacing in future hassle free. The customer is really happy and her dad even said how amazing the pipework was. The customer actually owns 10 houses and I’ve been asked to do the maintenance on them moving forward which is great.
