SUPERMARKET VOUCHERS FROM STELRAD LOYALTY CLUB

Posted on:

Stelrad Radiators has launched a new promotion through its installer Loyalty Club offering installers supermarket vouchers as another reward option in return for the points they earn from buying Stelrad products.

Stelrad’s Marketing Communications Manager Sarah Baker says: “With the cost of living rising by the week and products on the shelves getting more expensive, the supermarket voucher option seemed like a good option for installers and their families to help with the weekly shop or maybe buy a few treats. We hope this will be seen as a good option by installers, but we are also offering installers the option to donate the vouchers they qualify for to charity instead. We have a few installers who are members of the Installer Loyalty Club who already do this and like to see the value of their vouchers go to Cancer Research UK for children and young people charity and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.”

Stelrad launched its installer Loyalty Club just over three years ago and it’s seen thousands of installers sign up and receive ‘thank you’ rewards from the Loyalty Club in return for the loyalty they have put into Stelrad radiators. Installers have used their loyalty points to get free Stelrad radiators, branded clothing and tools and a myriad of other rewards that have been introduced from time to time.

“We try to keep the club fresh and to introduce new things for installers to qualify for over the years it’s been up and running,” says Sarah Baker, “ but this is the first time we’ve made supermarket vouchers available. We hope they will prove popular with our installers.”

DANFOSS MAKES LIFE EASIER WITH NEW INSTALLER – APPROVED ERC RANGE

Posted on:

Danfoss has introduced a new and improved range of energy-saving Electronic Room Controls (ERC) – the first to be co-created with installers to make their life easier. From its industry-standard backplate to the multiple cable access design and intuitive display wrapped in a full white exterior, the new ERC collection is designed for ultimate ease – from selection and installation to programming and everyday use. On top of all that, Danfoss has extended the warranty on the new range from two to five years and all models are 100% Boiler Plus compliant.

Danfoss listened to installers and used their feedback to develop an ERC range that is fast and hassle-free to fit and even more user-friendly, says Gareth Ash, Marketing Communications Manager at Danfoss. “We’ve involved installers in every step of the design phase,” he explains. “We believe this approach shows the importance Danfoss places on continuous dialogue with customers so we can reflect their needs in our products.”

With an ERC to suit all applications, Danfoss has streamlined the range to make choosing the right product for the job quicker and easier for installers. Models now include the TS710 and FP720 time switch and programmer respectively; the TP5001 range of programmable room thermostats; the RET2001 digital room thermostat range; and the RET1001M dial room thermostat.

The new Danfoss ERCs have a new industry-standard backplate featuring a multi-cable access design which allows side, top, bottom and rear access, making them much simpler to install. Depending on the model, other modifications include a new +1 hour booster button and indicator lights under each channel. Also, the old CH (Channel) button, sometimes wrongly identified by end-users as Central Heating, has been changed to read PR to avoid confusion. In addition, the previous 365-day service interval has been updated in line with regulations to a minimum of 400 days.

As part of the dynamic redesign Danfoss ERCs have also been given a smart new look and more user-friendly features. A full white design, including the backplate, is complemented by new aesthetically-pleasing, easy to read displays, plus a larger dial on RET models. The RET and TP ranges also have clearer detailing, while the FP720 now includes LEDs and clearer labelling of functions.

According to Gareth Ash the new installer-approved Danfoss ERC range offers a value proposition that is not only quick and simple to fit in new and retrofit projects but also raises the bar on energy saving.

Summing up, he says: “Research by the University of Salford shows that replacing a standard room thermostat with one that controls the boiler using load or weather compensation can deliver savings of 10% whenever the heating is on. So, with models that offer OpenTherm and on/off load compensation the new, easy to install Danfoss ERCs are the obvious choice for efficiency too.” To find out more visit https://www.danfoss.com/en-gb/campaigns/dhs/electronic-room-controls/#tab-overview

Polypipe launches Single Zone Electric Boiler for standalone projects

Posted on:

Polypipe, the UK’s leading manufacturer of underfloor heating systems, has launched the Single Zone Electric Boiler. The new boiler removes the need for single room underfloor heating applications to be plumbed into the existing home heating system, providing an easier way for installers to fit underfloor heating systems into new extensions or conversions.

The new boiler offers a solution for smaller, standalone projects where it would be impractical to plumb into a main system. The unit is designed to provide a completely self-sufficient underfloor heating solution for a range of projects, from standard applications such as bathroom conversions, kitchens and extensions, through to more unusual uses such as garden buildings, log cabins, or loft conversions.

For the installer, the Single Zone Electric Boiler has been designed with speed and ease of installation in mind. The compact unit is a ‘one box solution’ which includes all the components required to run underfloor heating, and comes complete with simple push-fit connections, and fill and drain ports.

The 3kw boiler can supply the hot water to service Polypipe Underfloor Heating systems installed in an area of up to 38m2 (based on a requirement of 80w/m2) with a temperature range of between 24° and 56°, offering improved efficiency over an equivalent radiator system. The boiler’s compact design ensures that it can be accommodated into smaller areas, helping to maximise space while providing a more even and comfortable heat than radiators.

The boiler also enhances energy efficiency for the end user. Electric underfloor heating systems have historically been a strong option for one-off or single area projects, however as they remain independent to other heating systems, when the underfloor heating is on the electricity is constantly in use, meaning that they can be costly to run.

However, the Single Zone Electric Boiler initially draws on the homeowner’s electricity to heat up the required water, and once the water is circulating through the system, the boiler only draws electricity intermittently to maintain the temperature. Overall, this offers significant cost and efficiency savings compared to a full electric underfloor heating system.

The Single Zone Electric Boiler holds British Standards Kitemark (KM 59690) and conforms to all relevant BSI and European directives.

Andy Coy, Underfloor Heating Product Manager at Polypipe, says:

“Many homeowners are choosing to renovate and extend their existing property rather than move. We wanted to provide installers with a product that could deliver an efficient underfloor heating solution to this consumer market, for when plumbing into the existing heating system proves problematic. We also specifically chose a 3kw output, as this means the unit can still be powered from a domestic socket, removing the expense and time of electrical alterations.”

Our favourite ad campaign of 2017

Posted on:

What do we want from an ad? For it to be entertaining? Tongue in cheek? Informative?

Sentinel managed to be all three in their ‘Think Dirty’ campaign, which is why we’ve named it out favourite campaign of 2017.

You’ll all have seen it: the neon lights and suggestive text, encouraging heating and plumbing engineers to ‘think dirty’ on the job. Supported by boiler manufacturers, merchants and industry bodies, Sentinel’s tongue-in-cheek ‘Think Dirty’ campaign aims to raise awareness around the issue of dirty circulating water, and help installers to deliver best practice cleaning as quickly and as easily as possible through the selection of suitable cleaning chemicals.

If a boiler suffers from dirty circulating water, it can experience pin-hole corrosion and component failure, radiator cold spots, excessive energy consumption, low heat output and loss of boiler warranty – all of which can result in unhappy customers, call-backs, complaints and loss of business for installers.

Sentinel’s range of products can prevent all of these issues, resulting in a happy boiler, happy customer and happy installer. The campaign focuses on three products specifically:

X300 – the cleaner for new systems

X800 – the fast-acting cleaner

X400 – the high-performance cleaner

We have it on good authority that there is more to come from Sentinel’s ‘Think Dirty’ campaign, so follow @SentinelHQ to keep up to date.

Polypipe Underfloor Heating warms up stylish Sussex residential development

Posted on: 1 Comment

When four new build properties in Horsham, Sussex, required a sophisticated heating system that could deliver comfortable temperatures throughout the home without compromising on style, installer AG Pearce chose underfloor heating experts Polypipe to provide an efficient solution.

The Woodland Park residential development recently added four new build detached properties to the site. Polypipe’s Red Panel solid floor system was installed throughout the ground floor in each of the four houses. The Red Panel system provides several benefits to installers, featuring unique castellations which act as a guide to make installation quick and easy, and guarantee the pipe is laid at regular intervals for an even heat distribution. The panels also feature raised sections to lift the pipe up off the insulation and allow the screed to fully envelop the pipe and better transmit the heat into the room. The castellations also reduce the amount of screed required by approximately 15%, saving valuable time and money on the project.

Using the Red Panel system ensures that installers can deliver a heating system that provides a consistent and comfortable temperature throughout the property, while also providing design freedom by removing the need for bulky wall based heating systems like radiators.

On the first floors, Polypipe’s OverlayTM Lite system was used. This is the lightweight version of our retrofit OverlayTM system, which is used in conjunction with lightweight floor coverings such as carpet, vinyl and laminate. Measuring just 18mm in depth, the OverlayTM Lite system is installed directly on top of the existing floor, making it the ideal system for upper floors which are not being screeded.

The underfloor heating systems were paired with Polypipe’s Smart Plus controls, offering the homeowners complete control over the heating of their home from stylish touchscreen wall-mounted thermostats and away from home using their mobile devices. Available in a range of colours and featuring a host of additional features, the Smart Plus controls offered yet another practical, yet design focused feature to complete these stylish new homes.

In order to maximise business opportunities, today’s heating installers aim to consistently deliver customer satisfaction courtesy of reliable, flexible and high performing heating solutions.

As product technology advances and consumer habits change, installers can maintain customer loyalty by providing access to the very latest innovative heating solutions that reflect and support how people are living their lives today.

Vaillant’s strategic approach to support installers in this ambition has been a two year development journey. It has culminated in the launch of Green iQ an instantly recognisable label which sets new standards for energy efficiency, sustainability and connectivity.

The Green iQ label is designed to give both installers and end users the reassurance that a boiler carrying the mark provides state-of-the-art high efficiency heating technology that is fully optimised for the lowest consumption and operating costs. It is also ensures that the boiler is manufactured via sustainable, environmentally friendly production methods with outstanding quality standards to deliver a future-proofed heating system.

Always thinking ahead

The journey from the idea conception to the launch of Green iQ has seen Vaillant combine a strategic push to technologically innovate with the need to respond to changing homeowner requirements.

While legislative pressure to ensure boilers are ever more energy efficient is well known across the industry, none the less it’s the responsibility of boiler manufacturers to push the boundaries and drive innovative thinking beyond what is just accepted.  On the back of insight gathered from installers and end users, it is clear that homeowners are demanding ever-more efficient, sustainable, flexible and connected boilers so the industry has to respond accordingly.

New homeowner demands

Societal changes are seeing greater numbers of people working from home, relying upon digital technology to connect and provide control for many elements of their lives through smart and networked devices.  Preference for environmentally-friendly products is now commonly expressed, while increasingly affluent demographic groups, including retirees, are seeking out premium solutions and are prepared to invest in them.  To satisfy these homeowner demands installers need to have a product solution that ticks all the boxes and that’s why Vaillant created Green iQ.

Green iQ – technology that sets a new benchmark

Compared to the standard performance models across the industry, the ecoTEC exclusive with Green iQ offers a 12% increase in efficiency when in domestic hot water mode, based upon an unrivalled ability to reduce flue gas temperatures to less than 30 degrees through a vastly improved extra condensing heat exchanger.

In an industry which for years has witnessed conventional condensing solutions capable of achieving temperature levels of around 80 degrees, the fact that this technology is able to deliver such results reflects the considerable shift in performance.

The underpinning innovation is the boiler’s ability to pre-heat mains cold water using exhaust flue gases before it passes through the boiler, meaning less energy consumption for overall efficiency optimisation.

The energy efficiency message is further enforced through the ecoTEC exclusive’s enormous turndown ratio, which has been developed on the back of insight gathered by Vaillant after speaking to installers.  It achieves 1:10 modulation (allowing the boiler to function at drastically reduced energy consumption levels during periods of low demand).  It maintains higher efficiencies at lower output thanks to the integration of Vaillant’s new all-gas sensor, constantly monitoring combustion, ensuring the highest flame efficiency. In addition, the boiler adapts itself to natural gas or LPG without the need for a conversion kit, and can also readily accept biogas.

For ease of installation, the ecoTEC exclusive with Green iQ’s innovative three way valve assists with speedy project completion. It has less wiring and removes the need for junction boxes and wiring centres.  With separate flow and returns for the boiler and cylinder, the ecoTEC exclusive will know whether it is delivering domestic hot water or heating and automatically boosts the heat energy into the cylinder so that water is heated much quicker.

Connectivity and control

Today’s consumers are immersed in a world of connectivity at their fingertips and , expect that such immediacy of control extends to all parts of their lives.  The ecoTEC exclusive with Green iQ provides this control for their heating and hot water needs. Online connectivity through Vaillant’s vSMART control means that the homeowner has total control via mobile devices to ensure their boiler provides an immediate and highly efficient answer to domestic hot water and heating requirements as and when they are needed, without geographical barriers.

Additional features such as in-built weather compensation to modulate efficiencies if, for example, the weather is mild, as well as the ability to monitor gas and electricity consumption associated with the boiler performance, are just some of the elements that put control firmly back in the hands of the consumer.

Installers are well aware of the challenges involved in growing a heating business in a highly competitive market. However, by arming themselves with all the tools available they can ensure customer satisfaction and secure those crucial word-of-mouth recommendations.

Green iQ ticks many boxes in terms of delivering the kind of adaptable, effective and responsive heating solutions required for the 21st century.  Its guarantee of innovative and proven market leading technology promises unrivalled energy efficiency, while sustainable production and an 85% component recyclable rate satisfies consumers’ environmental concerns.

Touch of the button connectivity provides instant and flexible access to a range of control features for homeowners, while the well-known Vaillant ecoTEC technology platform means that installation and ongoing repair and maintenance are both familiar and straightforward for the installer community.

Vaillant asked the market what it wanted and Green iQ is our response.  It raises the bar in many areas and stands out against current products by offering unmatched efficiency, connectivity and innovation.

8 steps to hassle-free heat this winter

The clocks are still clinging on to British Summer Time, but the TV schedule tells you that the nights will be drawing in.

The annual ritual of “discussing” when to turn the heating system back on will soon be in full swing. All over the land, those who feel the cold will be turning up thermostats and then wondering why the place is too hot a couple of hours later. The role of the thermostat is to control time and temperature – yet we still turn it to maximum hoping that the room will warm up faster.

The right heating controls will enable you to keep your home at a comfortable temperature without wasting fuel. Here are some helpful suggestions, as the smart meter prepares to turn a bit quicker…

  1. Check the thermostat and timers are set for when you need heat. Do you need it on when nobody is in the house?
  2. Turning your thermostat down by 1°C can save up to £85 per year according to the Energy Saving Trust.
  3. Consider changing your controls. Thermostats are much more accurate than they used to be; and to replace a dial thermostat with a programmable one will generally mean that you can run the system for less time for the same comfort level.
  4. Consider smart controls such as the therM range, which can be retro fitted to a standard back box with conventional wiring. You can then control the heating from your smart phone with intelligent learning and geo-location features.

Of course, it is not only the thermostats that can lead to cheaper bills and a hassle-free winter of heating…

  1. If you have an oil fired system, have you checked the fuel level? Supply and demand dictates that the price of fuel will increase the colder it gets (and it’s the same for solid fuels or a pellet boiler).
  2. Have you changed your energy supplier recently? If you’ve been using the same supplier for over 12 months you could save up to £679 by switching to a new supplier.
  3. Bleed the radiators. This is easy to do, but as it has probably been 12 months since you last did it, remember a cloth to prevent dirty water spills. If you are fortunate enough to have underfloor heating, you need to bleed only from a single point at the manifold.
  4. Turn the system on and carry out a trial run before the weather turns cold. This will prevent possible expensive emergency call-out fees, as you will still have time to book a routine service call.
